Lexus of Albuquerque can help you identify why your car or truck is shaking.
As a driver, one of the most uneasy feelings is when you can feel your car shake when driving. Is it a nail in the tire, did a pothole break my suspension, or do I have a busted driveshaft? There are several things that could be the cause of your car vibrating, and the amount of the potential damage can vary greatly. The most likely cause of the shuddering generally happens in the vicinity of your car’s tires and rims. They connect the vehicle to the road, and if anything is broken, you are going to notice. On a serious note, it might be a broken transmission or a broken control arm. These more serious component failures could leave you stuck on the side of the road.

If you got different tires recently, then the car shuddering could be caused by the wheels and tires not getting balanced correctly. Balancing the tires makes sure the weight is evenly distributed for the most peaceful ride possible. If you feel the tire shuddering when you are driving, it could be a tire that is no longer balanced properly. If you can confirm that the new tires are balanced, but your car is still shaking, make sure the tire pressure is correct, and make sure the lugnuts are fully tightened and make sure the tire pressure is correct. If you find that your tires are the cause of the shudder, you should get them looked at immediately.
If your car vibrates when you brake, that’s a pretty good signal that you need to have your brakes looked at. The most obvious reason for your steering wheel vibration is worn rotors. When you push down on the brake pedal, pieces of metal called brake pads compress against the brake rotors to bring your vehicle to a stop. A smooth surface will give you smooth braking. A warped surface will cause vibrations when braking, kind of like how a brick road feels rougher than a highway. Other possible causes of the shaking include stuck brake calipers or damaged shocks. If you feel your steering wheel start to wobble, bring it to us, and we’ll check it out.
If a car is shuddering before you ever start driving, then there’s a chance that you have some broken parts. The most common reasons for your vehicle shaking at idle are:
A Worn Driveshaft – If damaged or not perfectly balanced, it may cause shudders
CV joints That Have Failed – Working together with the drive shaft, cv joints get the engine power to the wheels and, if they are failing, can be the cause of your vehicle shaking.
Engine Mounts That Are Failing – As the name implies, these components help secure the engine to the car. If they are broken or even worn, it can allow the engine to engine shake under the hood.
If you’ve realized there is a new vibration in your car, then bring it to us for a thorough inspection. Our trained technicians will diagnose the reason for the shaking and get you back on the road quickly.
