Lexus of Albuquerque can help you identify the what is making the lights on your vehicle flicker.
If you notice your lights dimming while driving, it’s likely due to a failing battery. If the battery is normal, there are other common trouble areas that could be responsible for the issue. Whether it’s your battery or something else, you should have the problem diagnosed and fixed ASAP. When your lights aren’t working properly, you might become a danger to other drivers.
Flickering lights mostly occur in 3 areas:
Because the battery is the most convenient part to replace, this is where a technician will look first. If the battery is dying, bring it here so we can properly diagnose the problem and get the correct battery for your car. While there are cases caused due to a dying battery, there are other factors to consider.

If the car battery isn’t the reason for your flickering car lights, you might be dealing with a failing light bulb or a bad fuse. Bulbs are an easy fix and present an opportunity to upgrade to new LED bulbs.
If your car has a blown fuse, you might be looking at a bigger problem as fuses are a safety feature on your vehicle. In most cases, a fuse only fails when there is excess electrical current flowing through it. For example, if the anti-lock brakes are connected to a 10amp fuse, and the brake system gets more than 10amps of electrical current, the fuse will fail. In this situation, this would also cause your anti-lock brakes to fail. If you have a fuse that consistently fails, bring your car in so we can diagnose the bigger, potentially more dangerous issue.
Flickering lights can also be one of the signs that the alternator is failing. Consider this, you start your vehicle with power from the battery, but the alternator provides the power when the vehicle is running. If you drive an old car with halogen lights, you may notice them slowly get dimmer with a failing alternator. For newer cars with LED or HID lighting, they may flicker or just stop working altogether.
A bad light switch, either the headlight switch knob or an interior lights dimmer, also needs to be checked out if you have flickering lights on the car. In some rare situations, replacing a worn-out switch might solve the flickering light problem, especially in old cars or vehicles with excessive mileage. If your vehicle doesn’t fall into either category, it could be a sign of a more serious problem with the car’s electrical system.
Understanding these concerns can feel overwhelming, so if you are experiencing any issues with the lights flickering on your vehicle, bring it in immediately. Our knowledgeable technicians will thoroughly diagnose the problem and provide you with options for fixing your flickering car lights.
